Due to the latest issues going on around the world, its no surprise that there is finally a designer who is recycling old clothing to make new clothing in a way that doesn’t look like you were bored one day in front of the TV and decided to play designer with old clothes (usually always ends badly). The best way to explain who Dr. Noki is is by posting his statement from his website..

“THE ART BRAND OF NOKI CUSTOMISATION IS A STATEMENT AGAINST MASS PRODUCED FASHION BRANDING WHERE THE MERE TAKING, DIY STYLE OF A SECOND HAND GARMENT AND RE-WORKING IT INTO AN ETHICAL ‘ONE-OFF’ PIECE OF CLOTHING, CREATES THE NOKI ART. THIS ALONE IS PARALLELING THE ORIGINAL ESSENCE OF FASHION, BEING COUTURE. IT’S A CASE OF NOKI – COUTURE THE THROAT OF READY TO WEAR. THE FULL NOKI SILHOUETTE INVOLVES THE NOKI ROCK FROCK AND THE SOB- SUFFOCATION OF BRANDING MASK, THIS HAS BECOME KNOWN AS THE UNIFORM OF THE NOKIETTE- THE ALL NEW CULTURE JAMMER GRAND SLAMMER. NOKI IS WORLD FAMOUS, SOME MIGHT SAY INTER-CON-TA-MENTAL, FOR PIONEERING THE FASHION MOVEMENT OF CUSTOMISATION. FOR THE RECORD IT IS MUCH CLOSER TO THE PHILOSOPHIES OF CULTURE JAMMING COINED BY THE AMERICAN AUTHOR KALLE LASN, THE FOUNDER OF ADBUSTERS MAGAZINE.”

Basically, Dr. Noki is somewhat like a doctor. He takes lifeless pieces of vintage clothing and carefully dissects them and then transforms them into a new and exciting piece of clothing filled with life again.

I did find it interesting that a brand like Chloe would pair with a designer like Dr. Noki, something as strange as Dennis Rodmans marriage to Carmen Electra, and then give birth to a stylish cutting edge freak show that totally works. Its a pair and an outcome that I never saw coming and would never have expected. But while some may think that Chloe’s creative director Hannah MacGibbon may have gone crazy, I applaud her for her risk taking and think that more designers should jump on this band wagon.
